Revelation 4:3-11
Verses 3 and 4 give us a description of the Throne of God with the twenty four Elders seated upon thrones of their own and each one having a crown. They will use these crowns to worship the Lamb by casting them at His feet. This is why our works on this earth are so important; crowns are distributed to those that earn them giving them something of great value to cast at the feet of Jesus in worship.
Some would argue good works mean nothing for we cannot earn our Salvation; it comes by faith in Jesus Christ. The last part of this statement is true, it does take faith in Jesus to become Born Again and have our place in Heaven. However, there is the Judgment Seat of Christ mentioned in Romans 14:10 and 1 Corinthians 5:10. The Apostle Paul gives us the understanding that our works will be judged and rewards will be given for them or we will suffer disappointment for not earning them.
Thank God for the free gift of Salvation and the grace of God, however the result of our Salvation should be good works. Titus 3:8 states that ‘we need to be careful to maintain good works.’ Jesus also said that ‘a tree is known by its fruit’ which again is good works! What would be the purpose of the fruit of the spirit which is in contrast with the works of the flesh, if good works do not mean anything?
The point is, ‘to live is Christ and to die is gain’ as Paul has stated. He prayed much for the Church, that it would be conformed into the image of Christ. No one has ever done as many good works as Jesus. We should aspire to be like Him!
Verses 5-8 continues the description around the Throne of God; thundering, voices, the seven lamps burning which are the seven spirits, the sea of glass like crystal, the four Cherubim which are called beast, etc…
There is a lot going on around the Throne with the noise of the thundering, voices and the Cherubim crying out ‘Holy, Holy, Holy to the Lord.’ Notice also the seven spirits are mentioned again in this Chapter, however when we get to Chapter five we will go into more detail with who they are and how we know this.
As we work through this book of the Bible, we must keep in mind that it is called the book of Revelation and not the book of Mysteries. God wants what is written in this Book to be revealed to us. So we will strive to keep it simple and point out what is revealed and if something is still a mystery that will be noted as well so we can keep seeking the Lord to open that to us also, yet it may take some time as things unfold to us in world events.
Verses 9-11 are a revelation of the true worship of God and notice that this is when the twenty four Elders worship by falling down on their faces and casting their crowns at the Throne of God.
Then a song of worship is sung; “Thou Art Worthy.” I always enjoy seeing what is described here in my spirit as I sing this song unto the Lord; I hope you do as well after reading these passages.
There is some good music and worship out there in the Body of Christ, however I can’t even imagine it comparing to what we are reading here. In fact in other places in the Bible it talks of God Himself singing. Can you imagine the awesome sound that would come from the inside of God?
